I don't know why, but I've been having fun remember superheroes from the 90s. Jim Lee created some of the most memorable and remembered X-men costumes for the characters. Whenever I think of these characters, I always remember his designs first regardless of how they look like now.

I've been doing some small ink drawings recently after seeing another artist, Eric Hancock, do this on their blog. I wish I could work in pencils as well. The small format allows me to spend less time working as well as lets me have fun with the very limited space. I've been using 1.5" x 4.5" dimensions so far. I went back and added some textures into an illustration I finished awhile ago. I like the new feeling it adds to the piece. The other piece is more of a technical piece I wanted to work on. There's something fun just about hatching an ink piece. I'm really not sure if I want to add play flat colours to it or not. I'll play around to see how it looks like before I decide about it.

So the Vancouver Winter Olympics are happening at the moment so I thought to do something Olympic inspired and I thought it'd be way more fun to include kids. Ta Da! I liked how this turned out with the textures back in my work. It's been awhile, but I think it's a better direction for my work and it's just adds that little bit more to the illustrations though it sure eats up layers pretty quickly. It's probably a bit early, but here are the two designs I have for Christmas cards for this year. They're three dollars a card; each card is roughly 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" in size.
