Girl Smoking II

I finally finished it, but there's something about it I'm still not happy with. Oh well ... I'll figure it out or I won't. I shortened the neck when I did the final; I can't believe that I made it so long in the original rough. It's suppose to go along with the guy with a drink, but I don't think they'd work as a match-set ... maybe it's just me.

Guy with a Drink

Well I just finished this. I like working on small spot-type illustrations since I can complete them fairly quickly. I'm going to try to do an accompany woman version maybe with a drink or a cigarette (note: I do not promote smoking of any kind, but cigarettes do have its own look when used for something).

EDIT: I fixed up something that was bugging me about the raised arm as well as blurred the background. I think it works better now. I'll re-upload the fixed up for the non-blurred background later.

Japanese Business Man - Finished

So I finally got my lazy ass to finish this. I like how it turned out and the change of palette which was odd at first, but feels to be working now.

Japanese Business Man

Trying to work on a new series. More personal/portfolio work instead of my thesis. I just need a break. I still need one more idea for there illustrations; 2 illustrations just isn't enough to be a series, I guess. It's more coincident than a series to me. I posted the work in progress so far for the first one. I'm not sure about the colour palette; trying something new, but it feels odd.

Odin

Here's the working on linework for Odin. It's turning out well. I think it's still graphic enough to fit with the other piece, but I have to wait until I'm finished to see for sure.

EDIT: Posted the colour version I'm working on. I still need to draw in the other raven. They're frustrating me a lot. Otherwise, the colours are turning out quite well.

EDIT 2: Here's the finished version ... well finished for now before the crit. Who knows what changes might be recommended.

God of Money - Rough

Just the working rough of the God of Money. I dont know how much the colours and everything will change by the end. I'm looking the linework more and more as I complete this.

EDIT: Here's a further working rough. I've got most of the flat colours laid out. I'm thinking now that gold for the coins and silver for the other stuff (platter, fork, cuff links) will probably work better and give it a "classier"/"rich" feel to it.

EDIT 2: Just posted up the final digital version of it. I'm still not that happy with the background and I think it's just the colour. The metal leaf will really help make stuff stand out, hopefully not too much.

God Roughs

New roughs for the next set of gods I'm working on. There's the god of money and good old odin as a bum. Piecing things together in photoshop is a pain in the butt to do. I should honestly start drawing things smaller.

EDIT: I've flipped around the god of money so that it works better as match set so that they're like mirror reflections of each other (in the pose).

Osiris - Final

Here's Osiris ... pretty much finished except for the metal leafing experimentation. I'll try to figure out how I want to do that over the winter break.

Santa Playing - Final

Here's the final version of it ... for now, I guess. I might do some minor colour shifting later on before I print it.

EDIT: Posted a variation/improved version of the piece. I always felt that something was missing from the background so I fixed that up with the additional of a work bench and some lighting effects.

EDIT II: I finally figured out what wrong with the picture. With the shadow for the sleight was really off. Posted another version and got rid of the other final version. Just subtle change.

Snowcat

I'm too tired to name it right now. Just a quick sketch inspired by a friend. I'm liking the original hand done version a lot. I think I'll redo that as spot illustration with watcolours when I have the time. It should be nice.

EDIT: changed the name ... finally though I'm still tired as hell. Added a working digital version of it as well.

EDIT Part II - So I finished it. I'm liking the finished version fairly well. The gradients and textures work in my opinion. Now let's hope the printed version looks as good. Oh yeah, I'm done the lineart for the Santa playing with toys, but still have to full render the whole piece. So much to do with school work and personal work.

Santa Playing - rough

Here's one of the Christmas cards I'm working on. I'm still not sure which mouth to use for Santa. Also, I'm working on using some new textures. It's looking fairly decent so far.

Cards

Here are the finished cards. I've got minor formatting things to fix up, but otherwise they're finished. The boxes are there to show where the illustration actually is and the rest is just bleed. I'll post proper crop versions later on ... hopefully.

God of Modern Medicine Redux

Here's the final version of this. I've still got to fix up the colour so that it printers properly, but otherwise that's it. It was a fun piece to do though I still have to do the little write-up part for it. That's what the winter break is fun ....

Character Designs

Just stuff I'm going to use for a project. Probably not the best of stuff I've done, but I'm hoping the rendering will make up for it. I think the cropping of the images will help too.

Osiris - the saga continues

Still working on Osiris ... I've gotten this much so far. It still needs the flat colour and I'm going to double check to make sure all the colour works, but it's looking pretty nice so far.

Dragon - rough

Just a rough of an illustration I'm going to use for X-mas cards. ... yes, a dragon on a Christmas card; it'll be pretty cool.

Osiris

Here's Osiris waiting at the doctor's office for a check up. If anyone knows the story of Osiris and Seth, it makes more sense conceptually. Basically Seth and Osiris are brother gods in Egyptian mythology. Seth is jealous of his brother so on night, he kills Osiris and mutilates his body and scatters his all over. Isis, Osiris' wife, finds all the parts and sews him back together again as the first mummy. After that Osiris becomes the ruler of the underworld where he presides over judgement of the dead.

More progress ....

I'm liking the 3-d effect I'm getting. That should go nice with the 2-d flatness I have for everything else.

EDIT: added 2 more variation of things I'm trying out. I think the gradients are working nicly in the first one with the bottom bottle.

Girl - unknown number

So I've got to come up with a better name system for these sketches that's both cool and let's me remember what number or name it is. Anyways, I got bored (which I shouldn't be with all the work I've got left to do) and re-drew an old sketch. It's odd that I looked at the final versions I did of it instead of the original sketch. I think I finally got the hip sway/curve the way I want it to be.

Working on ....

Just testing out colours and stuff, but I'm liking the affect of the reds and oranges. Still got loads more to do on this.

Ho ho ho ....

Well ranted deleted and here's a santa picture. Doing some rough drawings for some x-mas illustrations. It's odd that in Canada it's just halloween and then it jumps to christmas unlike the US which has thanksgiving in between the two. Oh well ...

God of Modern Medicine - final rough

Here's the final lineart for the God of Modern Medicine. I'm still not too sure about the background with the shelves and worshippers drugged up/trapped in pill bottles. I feel like there should be more worshippers, but I guess I can add that later on ... copy and paste, digital best friend there. So Alex, still want a print when I'm done?

Chinese Dress ... finished

I'm almost finished ... just have to add the texture to the background which is going to take an hour or two. I seriously need to find a quicker way to do this, but it's looking really good so far.

EDIT2: I looked the sketch and thought it looked cool just with the lines so I thought i'd have just white and red and the texture.
