Chef & a Girl

So this is actually the 200th post on this blog that I can started for fun and 'cause a friend suggestation it, for a totally non-artistic reason. I should do something to celebrate so for anyone that knows me, free round of drinks on me the next time you can find me and providing I still remember this claim. Back to the drawings at hand. I like and I don't like the chef illustration up at the time. I see potentials there that I really want to go back to. I dropped the rough image over the completed version of the 2nd drawing up there. I'm going to put up the finalized one once I update my website. I liked how it turned out with the girl just sitting there in a dress. There's actually fine lace detail you can only see in a large version of the piece, but I really want to complete this rainbow and white series. So here I've got blue and I've uploaded orange, green and indigo already so red, yellow (*shudders* I so can't use yellow) and violet/purple left to go.

White Dress (ii)

So here's the indigo part of the rainbow. Now to get the rest of the colours down. I'm not sure if I can use white for all the clothes in the rest of the series so it does simplify the overall colours a lot. It'd be interesting to try to use white for all of them.

White Dress

I officially finished this today with adding in the eyelashes. I actually want to do a few more illustrations like this, simple and every graphic. Maybe I'll get one for each colour of the rainbow. ROY and BIV left to go.

Midori

I just finished reading Norwegian Wood and felt like doing something inspired by it. I had an idea based on the New York Times review of the book from 2000, but I decided not to do that for now. I drew Midori when the reader first meets her with short hair, white mini-dress and sunglasses. I want to do something very graphic and flat for once and I'm not sure how the colours will change by the end.

Circles

Another quickie illustration that's taking more time than it should since I've been lazy lately. It's back to my usual palette of greens and blues. I should do another piece with oranges and reds again for fun.

Singing - Working on

I'm really liking the colours of this piece though it's honestly colours I wouldn't use otherwise.

Singing

Work is going a bit slow on this piece. I think this is mostly due to me being uncertain about parts of the piece. I loved the little thumbnail I did and something got lost when I upscaled it all. It's got a lot of the feel of the thumbnail, but something is currently missing and maybe when I finish it, it'll be fine. It's at the stage of things right now where it all looks like crap. I hate that stage of things, but once you get past that, it's all fine again.

Drawings (i)

I finished the wizard yesterday and am quite happy with it. I need that overlay to get the colours to work better together. It's a good solution though sometimes I feel like it's a cheap way around something. I'm finally getting around to finishing the second illustration. I think I actually finished it the first time around though it was one of the files lost when my hard drive died on me.

Wizard - working on

Something about the wizard ink drawing scream out to me to be polished up and finishing in Illustrator. I actually have worked in Illustrator for a bit so it's great to be back working in it. Sometimes I get sick of doing things digitally 'cause it all feels too machine; the process and not the actual work. I spend too much time worrying about getting illustrations done and not enough time just draw and exploring things again. I've got to find a new balance of the two again.

Girls and one Old man

I've been sick most of this week and I swear I probably fried my brain with that fever, but I managed to sketch a bit. Now that's something, I think. On an interesting note, I passed the two year anniversary of me creating this blog and actually maintaining it.
