Working ink rough for a Chinese New Year illustration. It's going to be the year of the tiger on Feb 14.

Poker

It's not that big, but big enough I don't want to bother scanning it while I'm still sketching it out. Fantasy poker.

Doodle X

Been getting back on the sketch wagon, but haven't really done anything final in a bit, but I have updated my website once again with newer and brighter content at www.brendanhong.com. The top drawing is from my sketchbook and I like to draw all over the pages regardless of composition and I know it's a pretty bad habit, but turn my book all round to get the best alloted space to draw within. Otherwise, just trying to figure out how to draw people some more, which is further hard, to me at least.

Sketch XVII - fin

Ta Da! I liked how this turned out with the textures back in my work. It's been awhile, but I think it's a better direction for my work and it's just adds that little bit more to the illustrations though it sure eats up layers pretty quickly. It makes me wonder how long before I need a new and better computer to run things faster and better.

Sketch XVII

I like making up arbitrary numbers in roman numerals and I don't know why. They should make it a new disorder so I can get cured. It could be a math disorder 'cause the world can always use another disorder. It's funny the process work that went into this little sketch. I had to get to have a relatively non-stylized drawing done first before I could figure out how I wanted to stylize it.

EDIT:

Just a quick work in progress update.

Warrior Princess

I saw "The Secret of Kells" recently and it really inspired me to go back to drawing more medieval stuff, though it doesn't take me much to start drawing knights and vikings and dragons. The art director for the movie is pretty amazing and they set up a blog about the production of the movie, here. The stylization of the characters were really cool and very graphic, but the textures used made the look of the movie that much more amazing. It really did have the look and feel of an illuminated manuscript. Anyway, back to the sketch. I thought I'd go with something simple and I'll take to a finish and be second finished piece of the year. On a side note, it's been three years and I'm at "currently using 38MB (3%) of your 1024MB". I wonder how long it'll take take to use up that 1 GB.

Balancing

A bit late, but a quick ink sketch to start the year with.
