I'm finished. Looking at it now, I wish I had made the trees more dominate in the background instead as a way to frame the picture. That way, I could have had streaks of moon beams in the picture though I'm not sure how well that would have worked. I guess I won't know until I try another time.

Cancelled (part 2)
Yesterday, I talked about the project that got cancelled. Well, I was asked to stick on for another project that would feature half photos and half illustrations. I'd be in charge of the illustrations, which were about eating and how the body digested food. It was another interesting project with it's own challenges of how to show an x-ray of the body without having an x-ray machine there. My originally idea was to blend the needed x-rayed parts (like the bones and other organs) into the body so it sort of popped out, but that idea was turned down. I was requested to just the x-rayed parts instead and have half the body see-through and the other half normal. I honestly like the two different approaches and wanted to try them out in a finalized colour version. Unfortunately, the illustrations for the project was cancelled and the whole book would instead use photos. In a way, I never did fulfil my dream of having a book published though I did get to work for Scholastic (yeah!). All and all, it was an amazing learning experience and I would love the chance to work with Scholastic again.

Cancelled (Part 1)
Late last August, I was contacted by Scholastic Education USA (Art Director: Timothy McDonough and Art Buyer: Yvonne Silver)to see if I was interested in illustrating a project for them. I was ecstatic as it's been one of my dream to be published in a book and to work for Scholastic. I grew up reading Scholastic books in elementary school. I said "yes" and started working on the project. The project was to illustrated a series pictures about the sounds that the body makes and why we make them. It was an amazingly fun project as a lot of it was involving facial expression, which can be a bit tricky. Unfortunately, along the way the book was cancelled and I never got a chance to finalize the illustration, which I've show here in the first pass roughs. Though the book was cancelled, I was asked to stay on and work on another title, which I will talk more about tomorrow.

Nine Tailed Fox
So I haven't been dead lately, but just really busy with work and some of the work I've done I can't show yet. I was looking back at old illustrations I've done a few years back and thinking of all the ways I could improve them and this is one of improvements. Normally, I'm one of those people that see all that's wrong with a work a few weeks after it's all done. Not that I don't do my best, but afterwards, I see ways to make the next illustration better and better.
